WaxingAre you Ready to Try Waxing?
Yes!
How long should the hair be?
The longer the better. I prefer for clients to stop shaving, trimming or using Nair at least 3 weeks before your waxing appointment.
Does it hurt?
Pain level varies per person. Discomfort will minimize after each wax by staying on a 4-6 week waxing schedule and exfoliating 2-3 times per week.
How often should I wax?
How long will my wax last?
Results vary from person to person and there are many factors on the outcome. Even though it can take up to 3-4 sessions for a completely smooth wax, regrowth can occur within 1-2 weeks the first 3-4 months. The more you wax and maintain a great skin care regimen, the longer your results will last.
Will my skin get irritated after waxing?
Irritation/breakouts are common. Avoid products that contain high fragrances until breakouts are gone and use a fragrance-free body wash and lotion. After care instructions are given out after your initial appointment.
Can I wax while I am on my menstrual cycle?
Even though you may be more sensitive during this time or a couple of days before, you may wax during your menstrual cycle. Please place in a new tampon right before your appointment and wipes are provided.

Cosmetic TattooingAre you Ready to Try Cosmetic Tattooing
Yes!
What is the difference between cosmetic tattooing and standard body tattoo?
Cosmetic tattooing is to enhance the natural features of the client. It is softer and more subtle which provides a natural-looking enhancement. Body tattooing uses inks while cosmetic tattooing involves pigments. These pigments are designed to gently fade over time. Fading is desired as it allows the artist to make changes to colour and shape over the years as client’s natural facial and colouration changes occur.
DOes COsmetic Tattooing HUrt?
Topical anesthetic cream sand gels are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used during the treatment will not last as long. If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure.
How Old so I have to be to get Tattooed?
You must be 18 years or older to receive cosmetic tattooing at Maela's Esthetics
Can I get Tattooed if I am pregnant or nursing?
As a precaution, we do not perform cosmetic tattooing on pregnant or nursing women.
How long does cosmetic tattooing last?
Cosmetic tattooing procedures are considered semi-permanent and will not wash off, they will however fade over time and may require a refresh every 1-2 years. Scalp micro-pigmentation can last much longer if properly taken care of. Frequency of sessions depends on a number of factors including: the pigment colour used (lighter colours will fade faster), sun exposure, lifestyle and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas. Please note that final results CANNOT be guaranteed as each skin type is unique and holds pigments differently with different break down rates. At your second session we will re-evaluate how your skin has received the pigment and make any changes necessary. Multiple sessions are normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures with each new procedure requiring a minimum of 2 visits. Your second session can be booked 2 months after the initial appointment. Additional sessions will be charged according to our current pricing.
How many treatments are needed?
For most clients, a minimum of two sessions are usually required at least 8 weeks apart. With most procedures, the colour looks dramatically lighter after the first week. Some clients prefer this, while others opt for a more bold look. At the second session, we will assess the colour retention and make adjustments accordingly. Everyone heals differently at different rates, if your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly after the first session, do not worry! We can always go darker and add more density at your next session.
WHat Factors will affect my cosmetic TATTOO
What Is cosmetic tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing, semi-permanent makeup, or micro-pigmentation, is the process of implanting colour pigment beneath the skin's surface using tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes, make-up, or to enhance the face's natural features.
How Will I look immediately after? What is the HEaling Process?
Your semi-permanent make-up will appear darker and bolder than expected for the first few days. This will gradually lighten as healing process completes. Redness and swelling is minimal.
How will my COsmetic tattoo look in the future?
During your appointment, we will analyze your skin's undertone to anticipate how pigment colours will fade in the future. We will also mix pigments to ensure colour blends well with your existing eyebrow and hair colour. The majority of our clients' cosmetic tattoos stay true to color and lighten naturally over time. There are some cases, however, where colours may fade to different tones according to the individual’s response to the pigments (like lifestyle and iron deficiencies). Many factors affect these changes. At your next appointment, we will re-analyze how your body has responded to the initial colour. Special formula alteration to correct the colour and to prevent further colour change is made at this time. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually look softer and have more of a "powdered" look. This happens with all clients as the skin ages. To keep your hair strokes looking good, a refresher appointment is suggested every 1 to 2 years. Results vary with each client.
WHat SHould I know about long term care?
A good sunscreen should be applied daily AFTER healing and is required to help keep colour true. As with any tattoo, sun exposure will make the colour soften faster.
Fading speed depends on your skintype, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment colour used, broken capillaries, and if any chemical peels were done after your procedure. If you are planning a chemical peel, laser treatment or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have had a cosmetic tattoo. Careful application must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area. WIll COsmetic Tattooing WOrk well for me?
If you have extremely oily skin, the hairstroke eyebrow technique will NOT work well for you. The constant production of oil will cause the hairstrokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result will look more powdered than you would expect.
If you have little to no existing hair, your tattoo will appear more 2-dimensional than those clients who have more hair naturally. If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment may fade sooner. If you are iron deficient or Anemic, your pigment may fade sooner and bleeding/bruising may occur during and after the procedure. PLEASE NOTE: If you have had your eyebrows previously tattooed, we are no longer offering cover-up or re-work services. We cannot guarantee results for cases such as these. In some instances where the previous work is too dark, dense, discoloured, or large, tattoo removal will be highly recommended before our services will be considered. Previously tattooed areas will almost always require additional sessions and will be charged accordingly. Some special cases may be considered. Please contact us with any further questions. Is the Equipment safe?
Absolutely! We pride ourselves on having an immaculate and sterile studio space. We only use single use, disposable needles and supplies. This means that each set-up for each new client is discarded safely afterwards. Each of our stations are thoroughly disinfected before opening and after each procedure throughout the day.

Lash ExtensionsAre you Ready to Try Lash Extensions?
Yes!
Will it ruin or cause my natural lashes to fall out?
Based on the growth cycle of eyelashes, when applying lashes, lash stylist are trained to look for adult lashes to attach the individual synthetic lashes. Young (baby) lashes are left to allow them to fully develop and when it comes times to re-lash, we have new strong lashes to bond to.Lash extensions will not cause your natural eyelashes to fall out. Remember that your natural lashes have their own life cycle of falling and growing – like the hair found elsewhere on your body. It's hard to notice small lashes falling out, but when attached to a thicker, longer lash they become much more noticeable! Once the extensions are removed, your own eyes may appear smaller, your natural lashes, shorter and sparser because you've been accustomed to a full set of longer, thicker lashes.
How long does it take to apply lash extensions?
Lash extensions are applied while you are lying down with your eyes closed on a comfortable spa bed in a serene setting. This usually takes about 2 hours for a full set of lashes, but also depends on the set of lashes you decide to get. After prepping your lashes, your bottom lashes are protected with a gel eye pad, lash extensions are then applied 1-to-1 with medical grade adhesive. It is a really relaxing,
non-invasive treatment and most of our clients take the time to catch up on their beauty sleep! How long will my new lashes last?
Your new lashes will last between 2 to 4 weeks depending on your skincare routine and your own natural lash life cycle. To maintain the full look of your lashes, it will require you to maintain refills every 2-3 weeks.
How often should I be coming in for lash refills?
We recommend getting refills every 2 to 4 weeks. If you wait too long your extensions will fall out and you will require a full set. Factors such as exposure to humidity, steam or touching your eyes a lot may cause the extensions to fall quicker. Refills can take from 45 - 60 minutes, depending on the state of your remaining lashes. A good sign of when you need a refill is when your extensions are
30-50% gone. Can I apply mascara to my lash extensions?
No, mascara will close the fans for volume lashes, and break down the adhesive causing your lashes to fall out more quickly. If you have classics or choose to use mascara anyway you must only apply water based mascara. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara and any type of oil based mascara dissolves the bonding agent of the extensions and causes them to fall out completely. Also, take care in washing off all eye makeup. Only use a water based eye makeup remover. You may be charged more or refused service if there is mascara on your lashes or more loss at your appointment due to mascara use.
Can I swim, shower or exercise while wearing lash extensions?
Yes. The bonding agent we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise. However we recommend that you DO NOT WASH your eye area for at least 24 hours after the initial eyelash extension application. This allows the bonding agent to fully dry and prolong the life of your extensions.
